Schezo Wegey is a dark mage who possesses ancient magic and wields the Dark Sword. He has a tendency to drop scathing remarks, as well as a tendency to utter carelessly worded comments, oftentimes with his catchphrase "I want you!". This oftentimes leads to others calling him a pervert or creeper, much to his chagrin. Deep within his cool and collected personality, he harbors a liking for cute animals such as Donguri Gaeru and Onion Pixie. In the ancient language of Ranian, his name means "the gorgeous Adonis who defies the gods" (神を汚す華やかなる者), and he is nicknamed "Creeper" and "Pervert".

Appearance[]

Schezo appears as a young adult with silver-white hair and blue eyes. How his hair is shaped varies slightly, but is typically depicted to be short, with it being wavy in the PC-98 version of Madou Monogatari 2. He typically wars a light blue bandana on his head. His clothes tend to vary in design between games, but share the common trait of having a matching cape. He also carries the Dark Sword in hand, the weapon's design having design changes as well. It is typically shaped like a longsword, with the blade being translucent or clear as glass.

In Madou Monogatari 2, he wore sleeveless white robes, blue pants, a blue or white cape attached to brown or blue shoulderpads depending on the platform, and blue wristbands. The opening scene in the PC-98 version has him wearing simple ring bands as well. This design served as the basis of his outfit in the first three Puyo games and Cool Schezo from Puyo Puyo!! Quest, being given long sleeves with blue cuffs, and white pants instead. In Madou Monogatari: Tower of the Magician, they would be black with gold decorations instead, and have a shorter blue cape on top of a longer black one.

In other games such as Madou Monogatari: ARS and the Puyo games starting with Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary he would wear more swordsman-like attire, forgoing shoulder pads in favor of a breastplate and greaves that would cover his calves. The colors vary between games ranging from being black, purple, dark blue, or indigo. He wears a belt along with this ensemble, and his cape is held with a clasp or a belt.

In the Puyo Puyo movies from Paramount Pictures; Schezo wears the same outfits in the video games, but with blue shoulder pads that is attached to a long white cape.

Relationships[]

Arle Nadja[]

Because to his reputation, Schezo has some few particularly strong friendships with anyone, as well as his threat. His relationship with Arle is the most noteworthy, but their exact relationship is unclear. Ever since they are rivals, they are now teaming up together with the help of Draco Centauros as their relationship has grown stronger.

He and Arle make a "Thunder Flames" if Schezo uses "Thunderstorm" and Arle uses "Fireball" for Spell 1.

Arnold Sullivan[]

Carbuncle[]

He thinks that Carbuncle is working together with these Puyo popper girls. So he and Carbuncle can team up together with Arle and Draco. However, Schezo calls Carbuncle "Our Fuzzy Bunny" just like Arle and Draco calls Carbuncle "Carby".

Dark Prince[]

Schezo doesn't seem to like the Dark Prince and is not afraid of having to deal with him to keep his hands off Arle as he is competing with the Dark Prince for Arle's magic power. If Arle is brought up between them, they will quickly break out into squabble over her. Schezo tends to call the Dark Prince "old man" and makes it clear that he finds Rulue's infatuation with the Dark Prince impossible to understand. He even goes as far to call the Dark Prince out for his romantic pursuit of Arle in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, suggesting that the Dark Prince is the worse of the two of them and that his desire for Arle's magic power isn't the same as the Dark Prince's desire to marry her.

He will likely use the spells Star Strike, Shadow Edge and Shockwave on him just like he did when he faced against Possessed Klug.

In the episode Cats on the Run; Schezo handcuffs him with the containment cuffs as he's the S.P.D. Shadow Ranger in the city of Toronto, Ontario.

David Burnside[]

He thinks of David Burnside of the spy agency as an ally because how David and Tom are fans of the Power Rangers franchise. David and Tom have given Schezo a Patrol Morpher as a personal weapon much as to Schezo's dark sword.

Draco Centauros[]

Ever since he and Draco met each other for the first time when they were kids, the two went to preschool where Arle uses to go there along with the other kindergarteners. Arle's preschool teacher introduces two new students that are attending to this school. Arle never knew that she has new classmates at her preschool to make new friends. After a day at preschool, Arle is dashing to the forest on her own while Draco and Schezo are going to their homes. Draco sees Arle going to the forest, she imagines that she'll be ambush by these mysterious creatures for good and she will be injured. The two of them dashes to forest and searches for Arle in the Puyo Puyo movie. They also meet Klug.

Jane Murray[]

Schezo meets driver Jane Murray as he got in the car in the city of London, England, United Kingdom in the episode Special Agent Style where he leaves Heathrow Airport and is in the car with Draco and Ms. Accord.

Jyoti Arnold[]

Klug[]

Their interactions are also laced with moments of humor and underlying respect. Schezo, with his dark charm, often finds Klug's nerdy obsession with library books and adherence to rules amusing. Conversely, Klug's earnestness and moral compass sometimes challenge Schezo to reconsider his own methods and ambitions. Though they may bicker and clash, their encounters often lead to moments of growth, as each character learns to appreciate the other's strengths and weaknesses.

Ultimately, their relationship serves as a dynamic representation of light versus dark, order versus chaos, and the complexity of heroism within the vibrant world of Puyo Puyo.

He and Klug make a "Thunder Crater" if Schezo uses "Thunderstorm" and Klug uses "Crater" for Spell 1.

He and Klug make a "Gravity Shockwave Attack" if Schezo uses "Shockwave" and Klug uses "Gravity Strike" for Spell 5.

Possessed Klug[]

Schezo Wegey's relationship with Possessed Klug is a complex interplay of rivalry. When Schezo encounters Possessed Klug, he is struck by the similarities between Klug's transformation and his own challenges with the seductive nature of dark magic. Possessed Klug with his villainous demeanor and frightening power, acts as a dark mirror for Schezo—a reminder of what happens when one fully embraces malevolent forces without restraint. In a twisted way, Schezo feels a kind of kinship with Klug, recognizing the potential for greatness that lies within shadows.

This relationship is also fraught with tension. While Schezo seeks to wield his dark powers heroically, Strange Klug represents a warning of what could happen if one loses control. The memories of the Dark Prince, a figure who embodies power but often veers into egotism and tyranny, echo in Schezo's mind when he sees Klug in his possessed form. He fears not only for himself but also for Klug, wondering if the young mage will lose his identity entirely, spiraling into the abyss like the Dark Prince before him.

Their encounters are charged with a mix of respect and caution, as Schezo navigates his own path amidst the shadows, always wary of the seductive nature of the dark magic he so readily commands. In Strange Klug, he sees not just a villain to be vanquished but also a potential reflection of his future—an embodiment of the darkness that lurks within him, urging him to choose carefully the path he walks.

He also says that Possessed Klug's spells are no match for his dark sword as he will likely use the spells Star Strike, Shadow Edge, and Shockwave just like he did when he faced against the Dark Prince.

In the episode Invasion at the Casino; Schezo handcuffs him with the containment cuffs as he's the S.P.D. Shadow Ranger in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the episode Special Agent Style; Schezo battles Possessed Klug as he's the S.P.D. Shadow Ranger in the city of London in the United Kingdom.

Ragnus the Brave[]

When it comes to handling Possessed Klug, Schezo says to Ragnus "I'll show you what a real hero can do."

He and Ragnus make a "Thunder Slash" if Schezo uses "Thunderstorm" and Ragnus uses "Slash" for Spell 1.

He and Ragnus make a "Combo Blade of Light and Dark" if Schezo uses "Night Blade" and Ragnus uses "Combo attack" for Spell 2.

He and Ragnus make a "Super Shadow Rave" if Schezo uses "Shadow Edge" and Ragnus uses "Mega Rave" for Spell 4.

He and Ragnus make a "Shockwave Blowout" if Schezo uses "Shockwave" and Ragnus uses "Ultimate Blow" for Spell 5.

Razor[]

He and Razor make a "Shockwaving Fangs" if Schezo uses "Shockwave" and Razor uses "Lightning Fang" for Spell 5.

Richard Keating[]

Ringo Ando[]

He thinks that Ringo is a student of Suzuran Junior High where she's learning some physics and math unlike his dark powers. When it comes to Possessed Klug, they team up together. He also likely protects and defends Ringo when it comes to the Dark Prince knowing the fact that they're enemies as Schezo and Ringo are friends and allies where they're morphing into the Power Rangers with Schezo as the Shadow Ranger and Ringo as the Red Ranger from Power Rangers S.P.D.

He and Ringo make a "Lightning Sine Strike" if Schezo uses "Thunderstorm" and Ringo uses "Sine" for Spell 1.

He and Ringo make a "Dark Cosine Dual Swords" if Schezo uses "Night Blade" and Ringo uses "Cosine" for Spell 2.

He and Ringo make a "Tangential Star Storm" if Schezo uses "Star Strike" and Ringo uses "Tangent" for Spell 3.

He and Ringo make a "Shadow of Algorithms" if Schezo uses "Shadow Edge" and Ringo uses "Algorithms" for Spell 4.

He and Ringo make a "Calculating Shockwave" if Schezo uses "Shockwave" and Ringo uses "Calculus" for Spell 5.

Rulue[]

Schezo and Rulue appear to be on relatively decent terms, though they often get into fights. Schezo actually respects Rulue using her martial arts to make up for her lack of magic potential, although he admits that at the same time, this is something which greatly scares him. He does not understand her infatuation with the Dark Prince, however, and hates to hear her long-winded praises of him. Despite this he puts up with it for brief periods of time and even wishes her well; a clear sign of their friendship. Schezo and Rulue sometimes train together in an attempt to make themselves stronger, seeing each other as worthy opponents.

Santa Claus[]

Schezo likes Santa Claus where he's always been on the nice list knowing the fact that he's brave and heroic with his dark sword.

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Tom Adler[]

Witch[]

Witch's relationship with Schezo is an interesting one, as she is shown to be one of the few characters who seem to genuinely enjoy his company to an extent. However, there have been moments where she is seen teasing Schezo for his unique speech patterns and pestering him by asking for absurd things like his robes in Puyo Puyo Sun and his hair in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary. In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 she nominates him for the handsomeness round of the beauty pageant, jokingly citing his name meaning ("the gorgeous Adonis who defies the gods").

Trivia[]

  • In the original MSX2 version of Madou Monogatari II, Schezo has no name and is simply called "The Mage" in-game.
  • In Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche, Sir Fuzzy Logik and the team of Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright use his AI.
  • According to Kazunari Yonemitsu, director of Madou Monogatari 123 and one of the creators of Puyo Puyo, Schezo Wegey and the Dark Prince were modeled after characters from the novel Night's Master.
  • In Puyo Puyo 7, Schezo is the only one of 3 characters to have a unique transformation animation - his mini and mega animations are exclusive to the mode. However because of this, Schezo has only one sprite, and the only difference between the first and second animations is the manner in which he tilts his sword.
  • In the True Madou Monogatari novels, the spell "Areiado" is said to mean "to tear an angel's wing" in an ancient language.
  • While Schezo's age is open to interpretation, a popular theory among the Western community is that he is 180 years old.
    • This is based on True Madou Monogatari, a series of novels written by Kenji Oda. Many Japanese fans initially criticized this reveal, saying that Schezo "acts too stupid for someone that old", to which Oda clarifies that Schezo had been asleep for a long time, and did not age mentally or physically during this period. However, Oda also clarified that True Madou Monogatari is only his personal take on the series.  Therefore, the novels (and by extension, Schezo's age in those novels) are not considered to be canon to the official setting by the majority of the Japanese community.
  • Schezo has an unused face in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. The face was used in Puyo Puyo Tetris in Chapter 9.
  • Alternate voice notes:
    • In Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, his voice becomes lower-pitched, with the pronunciation of some of his lines becoming more forceful. Many lines of dialogue are also changed, for example switching out "Omae" for "Kisama", an extremely impolite second-person pronoun.
    • In Puyo Puyo Tetris, he has a high-pitched, childlike voice (similar to his Mini Puyo Fever voice in Puyo Puyo 7).
      • The English version instead gives him a more peculiar voice, as if he intends to irritate his opponent.
    • In Puyo Puyo Chronicle, his voice becomes lower-pitched, but it sounds closer to alternate voices of Satan and Maguro in the same game. He is also whispering sometimes.
    • In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, he acts overdramatic, similarly to Zed's alternate voice in the original Puyo Puyo Tetris.
      • In the English version, most of Schezo's alternate voice clips are reused from the original Puyo Puyo Tetris, and his new voice clips retain the same tone.
  • The intro of Madou Monogatari: ARS associates each of its three main characters with a type of flower. Schezo's flower is the crowea.
  • Schezo's official character select portrait Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is missing his gloves even though he is wearing them in his chain animations. It is most likely an error.
  • The design of Cool Schezo from Puyo Puyo Quest is likely a reference to Schezo’s design used in a significant part of Madou Monogatari’s history, including Puyo Puyo Tsu and Puyo Puyo Sun.
  • Schezo's "I want you!" line originates from programmer Kei Tatsuki during a development meeting concerning graphics. He wanted a woman named Eiki on the team as a designer, causing him to accidentally blurt out "I want Eiki!".
